Girl Smiling

“It all started when I met Joey, a golf course shaper and designer, in Bermuda 15 years ago. He was then in the process of a major renovation at Port Royal GC and I fell madly in love with him while he introduced me to the game of golf. I knew nothing, absolutely nothing about golf and our first date was a round of golf at a nearby course. How intimidating when you want to look your best. A year later, we moved to Europe together for a golf course construction project and we started traveling within Europe.

I knew I did not want to become a golf widow

I wanted to travel the world with him while he could play the best golf courses in the world. Intrigued and challenged, I was a French citizen who had lived in Europe all my life prior to our introduction in Bermuda, but the recurring question was… what would I do when he plays a 4 or 5-hour round of golf?

I got really creative over the years and always found some interesting sites and things to explore on my own. As a non-golfer, I was alone, most of the time in remote places in a foreign country and I had no idea of what I would find out there but in the end, these experiences alongside my husband’s tee-times were truly awesome. We explored many European countries while playing off-the-beaten path golf courses and these golf aventures made us stronger as a couple, uniting our friendship forever. I later became a golfer myself and was able to play with him and share a similar passion for golf courses and golf architecture. I eventually worked as a Head Club Secretary at Switzerland’s top course and was honored to be part of the small team at the International Golf Federation (IGF) to bring the game of golf back to the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016.

Today, we are a small team of golf travel designers, specializing in European golf courses and golf destinations, including the British Isles and Continental Europe’s best golf experiences. We have dedicated our lives to playing golf courses all over Europe and to working in the golf industry in several capacities for more than 30 years. We aim to maximize your time with the best experiences on and off the greens and create unique tailor-made golf itineraries in Europe”

CHASEGOLF Travel

While golfing in Europe is often synonymous with extraordinary “links” golf mostly found in Scotland, Ireland and England, Continental Europe has also amazing inland golf courses called heathland courses.

Steeped in history and unique in nature, heathland courses are truly exceptional in Europe. “Heath” is an “open landscape dominated by low growing plants, mainly species of heather and gorse as well as bracken, heathland grasses, herbs and mosses, which is interspersed with areas of bare ground and scattered trees”.

Heathland courses share a lot of similarities with Links courses such as sandy soil, low nutrient soil, topography (built on undulating grounds) and bunker style. But, there are also major differences. While Links golf courses are found by the water, Heathland courses are located inland and thus, there aren’t as exposed to the sea winds. For this reason, heathland courses are much quieter and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere, away from the breezy coastline. Built on open undulating grounds and less manicured than parkland courses, Heathland courses are surrounded by pine trees and can be found on former hunting estates. In the past few decades, forest management and tree clearing have been a priority for most of these heathland courses, while trees have taken over the original course design features.

The presence of heather is what’s stands out when playing heathland courses. The wonderful purple color contrasts magically with the green color of the holes. In addition to the striking colors, heathland courses can be described as nature reserves and enjoy a great variety of wildlife in general.

Our logo represents the green color of the golf holes and the purple color of heather on heathland courses.

Our Team

Fanny

Born and raised in Le Porge, a small village near Bordeaux, France, Fanny grew-up in a hotelier family while her parents managed a luxury campsite for 25 years. She graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Tourism and a Master’s Degree in International Hospitality from the Vatel Institute before starting her career as an Assistant Manager at the Pompano Beach Club, number one hotel in Bermuda for their service excellence. This is where she learned what personal service truly meant, memorizing guests first and last names and becoming the one referenced in their comments cards. Fanny met her husband Joey, a golf course designer, on the magical island of Bermuda when he was building the PGA Championship Port Royal Golf Course.

Fanny moved back to Europe and opened a Michelin-starred restaurant at the Mont Cervin Palace in Zermatt, Switzerland and also managed a 27 luxury-room hotel on the island of Alderney, in the British Channel Islands where she supervised a team of 15, before joining Joey in Portugal who was building a golf course in the Alentejo.

After 2 years in Portugal, Fanny and her husband moved to Switzerland where she worked as the Head Secretary of the Domaine Imperial Golf Club (Switzerland top private golf club) and eventually succeeded in joining the International Golf Federation, the governing body for golf where she was a key member of the operations team that led Golf’s return to the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016.

In 2017, Joey and Fanny moved to the NY area to pursue Joey’s opportunity with Labar Renovations and Fanny integrated the luxury Corporate Headquarters of CHANEL in the Big Apple where she learned the ins and outs of US corporations. She was a key member of the Nestlé Waters Corporate Affairs team in Stamford, CT during the pandemic and joined WAC Travel in 2021 to design custom-made itineraries all over Europe. She has lived and worked in 6 different countries, visited 61 countries (and counting!) and speaks 4 languages.

Her travel specialties include: Extensive complex road-trips throughout Europe, wine and gastronomy, small charming villages, hidden gems and unique destinations, UNESCO world heritage sites, adventure and golf trips. Her destinations: France, Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Scotland, England, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands (The), Czech Republic, Austria, Italy and Greece.

A native from Oshkosh, WI, Joey Chase was born and raised in a golfing family who has dedicated their entire life to the game of golf. Joey’s grand-dad, Budd Kenneally, loved this game so much that a tournament is organized in his memory each year while Joey’s father was a greenkeeper for over twenty years. Naturally, Joey started playing golf at a very young age and eventually studied at Rutgers University to earn his Associate’s Degree in Turf Management. Shortly after graduation, he started his career working for famous golf course architect Roger Rulewich, a Robert Trent Jones protégé. During his time learning with Roger for eight years, Joey did +50 complete constructions, restorations and renovations in the US and internationally in Jamaica, Bermuda and Portugal.

Joey and Fanny met in Bermuda while he was renovating the PGA Championship venue, the Port Royal GC. After over two years living in Portugal while working on a new golf course construction project, Joey moved to Switzerland where he led the maintenance team of the top semi-private golf course in this small country, the Domaine Imperial GC located along the beautiful shores of the Leman Lake facing the Mont-Blanc. Five years later, Joey and Fanny moved to the US in 2017 where Joey joined the Labar Golf Renovations team as a project manager. His experience at Labar Golf Renovations helped intensify Joey’s knowledge, reputation and network within the circles of golf course architecture. Joey now works as a course designer/ shaper along with Andy Staples. Joey has worked on more than 200 golf courses over the past 25 years, visited +800 courses in the world.

His travel specialties include: Extensive golf trips throughout Europe including Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Switzerland, with a focus on studying the classic design tenets, found throughout Europe.
