Madrid is an excellent golfing destination if you also enjoy art museums, outstanding gourmet food and grand monuments such as the Madrid Palace for instance. The vibrant capital is home to some of the best public (Santander, Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, Centro Nacional de Golf) and private courses (Puerto de Hierro, Moraleja, and Sociedad Hipica Espanola) in the country. Although most of the highest ranked courses are private, we still recommend a stop over.

Combine the elegant plazas and façades with the visits of the Prado and the Reina Sofia Museums, take a stroll in the fascinating botanical gardens, the Parque del Retiro or marvel at the fabulous ceilings of the Royal Palace. The bustling city is also well­-known for its large shopping malls and magnificent avenues such as Gran Via. Who knows…you may also find an Egyptian temple somewhere as well.

Several excursions can also be organized when visiting Madrid, for instance the UNESCO city of Segovia, Avila or Toledo. A bit further, Salamanca and Cáceres can also be considered.

Among the more famous and beautiful cities to visit in Europe, Barcelona boasts beautiful architecture both modern and ancient. Among the architectural monuments is the many spectacular works of Gaudi including the Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, and the Casa Milà. Warmed by the Mediterranean Sea, there are many beautiful beaches to unwind and enjoy. Also, the coastline of the Costa Brava hides many beautiful small villages, amazing beaches and cute harbors if you want to adventure off-the-beaten path. 

Make time to visit the Picasso Museum, if possible, as it houses over 4,000 pieces of his art in a spectacular 5 adjoining medieval palace setting. For the sports fans, visit the FC Barcelona museum and maybe take in a match at their beautiful stadium. Or, allow us to show you some of the regions best golf courses.

Costa Brava’s top course is Camiral (formerly called PGA Catalunya), designed to challenge the best players in the world. Along with Camiral, Emporda and El Prat also boast wonderful multi-course facilites, designed by the likes of Greg Norman and Robert Von Hagge. There are many other lovely designs peppered throughout the region.

Less crowded and not recognized yet as a golfing destination, the South East region of Spain is comprised of 2 distinct communities: Murcia and Valencia. Valencia is home of the only warm weather links course that we know of, Parador El Saler, designed by the famed Spanish architect, Javier Arana in the 1960s. West of Valencia, El Bosque is one of several courses designed by Robert Trent Jones during his most prolific spell in Spain from the mid 60’s to mid 70’s ‐ other courses include Sotogrande (1964), Las Brisas (1968), Mijas (1976) and Las Naranjes (1977). Designed by Cabell Robinson and opened for play in 2010, Las Colinas leads the way in the Murcia area, followed by two 18-hole courses located at La Manga Club.

Costa Blanca is becoming a trendy destination in Spain and will continue to develop in the next few years. We highly recommend a quick stop to explore Valencia, the 3rd largest city in Spain, known for its futuristic City of Arts & Sciences, vibrant food scene and beautiful beaches. This family‐friendly city is easily walkable, safe, and filled with plenty attractions to keep everyone entertained. The southern coastline from Valencia to Cartegna is very attractive.

First and foremost, when speaking about Northern Spain from the golfers perspective, we must note that the great Seve Ballesteros is from Pedreña, which is also home to a wonderful course originally designed by Harry Colt.

The land of Pamplona and it’s bulls, San Sebastian and the famed streets filled with Tapas. Bilbao and its masterpiece of architecture, the Guggenheim. The Camino de Santiago de Compostela, and the breathtaking cathedral that awaits the pilgrims at its end. The wine, the food, and the cultural sites are all worth the visit alone.

We can’t stop there, as we love golf, and our Spanish itinerary wouldn’t be complete without mentioning some of the gems in this region. Neguri is among the best in Spain, designed by Spain’s own, Javier Araña. Pedreña, as mentioned earlier, is also a fantastic round. While further west lies Real La Coruña, designed by Philip Mackenzie Ross (of Turnberry fame), a fun course worth visiting. Sprinkled throughout the region are other hidden gems waiting to be found!

Situated in the Mediterranean Sea, east of Valencia, the Balearic islands form a small archipelago composed of 4 main islands: Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera. Mallorca has truly developed as a golfing destination over the past decade boasting a total of 23 courses; 20 of them open to the public.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in 2003, Alcanada benefits from a privileged location in the North East of the island, in the Bay of Alcúdia. Currently ranked the top course on the island, It is also the only course situated right on the coastline offering stunning sea views; again in 2024, the course will host the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final. Equally beautiful and challenging, Son Gual and T Golf Calvia are both worth a visit. They are both situated in a magnificent setting and offer modern facilities.
